So I was offered a position at Sams Club as an Asset Protection Manager. Salaried, 50 hours a week..

Here's the kicker: 32k starting pay, non negotiable, 45k cap.

What? Non negotiable? Am I just crazy? That seems like peanuts to me for the work required.

Let's see: $35K divided by 52 weeks = $673 per week, divided by 50 = $13.46 an hour. As a salaried worker 50 usually doesn't mean 50, it means more.
I wonder what the guy who cleans the restrooms and mops and waxes the floors makes.
For a managerial level job the offer is insulting, in my view. And some folks suggest we're a profession and not a trade?
Now in these tough times there are those of us who would agree that $13.46 an hour, with OT, for a 40 hour week would be temporarily okay while you look for a retailer who respects the valuable contribution LP makes to the safety of the employees and customers as well as it's economic health; especially a retailer who needs LP leadership in their program. Who do you blame for this? Senior management or senior LP management? Sad.

The math is right there! That is crazy/funny that they would even think to offer that kind of money for the position. You would make more money holding a sign in front of Sam's Club WILL WORK FOR FOOD.

I have a close friend who works for the same type of box club and his 50 hours a week turned into 70 plus during the holidays. I think he figured his pay to be just under $10 an hour, while hourly employees working a regular 40 hour shift with no added responsibilities that have neem with the company for quite awhile are making close to $19 an hour.

STAY SAFE

Nice! I always use to joke with the female checkers when I worked for a grocery store and they asked me to walk them to thier cars. I was making $10hr and they were $15-$20hr. I told them that they should be walking me to my car. But isn't that the standard for LP/Security, always last on the list but first to layoff or cut after 4 quarter.

After 7 months of this job I just couldn't take it anymore. Including drive time, I have been "working" 60-64 hours a week. Job is totally compliance related. I had one apprehension since August. I'm also going back to school full time to finish up my police science associates so that didn't help with the stress levels.

I'm stepping down/transferring to a floor walking role either here or with Wal-Mart so I'm taking another huge pay hit. I've been looking elsewhere for months and haven't had much luck. A year ago I was managing AP in three states til we went bankrupt. A job is better than no job I guess.

I don't know how companies figure out payroll either because it's not actually 32k. It is $29520 - based on what is on my check as gross pay.

Going back to school is the smart thing to do. Good for you. Good luck.

And then companies wonder why the LP function gets unionized.

So the transfer to a Wal-Mart was approved, but the pay is $1.20 less than everyone else says it should be and also inconsistent with the current procedure in the stores.

They have these things called experience credits and you can get up to 5 of them at .40 a piece. Usually what happens is that if someone has 5+ years of experience is hired off the street, regardless of gaps or time frame they are keyed with the full 5 credits. This is all done in-store.

They are essentially saying this is how it is and not offering a viable explanation. I need outta here.
