Doing research on a product. Is it right for LP? Basically, it is a self contained wireless CCTV camera with built in recording. It is viewable from a web browser, a smartphone, iPhone or Blackberry. Can have one cam or 100 and they all link together. The request from one LP to us was to make this camera so they can move it within a store(s) as needed (thus wireless 802.11b/g/n). Not a part of another video system, but stand alone. This product does not exist in the market today and I wonder if it has value to the LP market as a whole? Thoughts?

It sounds very interesting to me and I would definitely want to test one in my stores...I can think of many uses! Larry

As for me, there was a time in my service as an LP/Security Director I would have killed to have such technology as you describe. There were countless internal problems that could have been more easily and professionally resolved instead of, for example, placing an investigator in a refrigerator box for hours on end peering out through slits cut in the box.
The thrust of CCTV in retail today addresses the need to monitor the public. You're exploring a packaged system that has more surreptitious surveillance capabilities that can enhance those LP programs that recognize the on-going need for expertise in internal investigations.

Sounds like a great investigative tool. Several items you may want to look into: Size & weight (concealable); recording length; lens focal length (normal, wide angle, telephoto; Changeable); can lens image be sent to camera via cable; power source (if battery, battery life); recording medium (compatibility ability with existing [standard] equipment; Does it have sound capability (legal issues);

Forget the refrigerator box - those of us who were in grocery at obe time remember standing in the milk coolers looking for shoplifters - now that was COOL!

Stop! This just reminds me of how long and how old I'm am. But it was great to stand in the "Milk Box" on a hot summer day. I would go in just to cool off until a got a shoplift stat out of there. Then it was the place to be, just has to remember to turn the lights off so you weren't seen. The good old days before cameras.

What am I talking about, don't know what I would do without my CCTV system and PTZs. lol
